Current responsibilities
Vernon Martin serves as a vice president of JLL Valuation Services in the United States. He works with regional malls, industrial and biomedical properties, office buildings, apartment communities, mobile home parks, assisted living facilities, and bank branches throughout the western United States.
Experience
Prior to joining JLL in 2022, Mr. Martin spent 16 years as an independent fee appraiser who travelled the world and appraised on every continent except Antarctica, including apartments in Nigeria, a game ranch in South Africa, several office buildings in Seoul, Korea, assisted living facilities and retirement villages in Australia, hospitality properties in England and Scotland, resort development land in the Caribbean and Central America, and solar farms, subdivisions and beach properties throughout South America. Prior to that he served as the chief commercial appraiser for the largest savings and loan company in the U.S.
Having been a commercial appraiser for 38 years, he has appraised almost every property type, including specialties such as solar farms and cannabis properties. Clients have included institutional lenders, hard money lenders, attorneys, CPAs, churches, utility companies and private families, and he has served often as an expert witness. He taught Real Estate Appraisal at California State University, Los Angeles between 1998 and 2005. A prolific author, he has published in peer-reviewed periodicals such as The Appraisal Journal, who awarded him the AIET Armstrong/Kahn award for most outstanding article of 2009.
