Current Responsibilities
Michael A. Billing is a Managing Director and a leader of JLL’s Consulting Place Practice. He is a Certified Public Accountant where he helps companies optimize and transform their real estate portfolios to drive enterprise results. Amid rapid digitization and fundamental shifts in the way people work, Mr. Billing is working extensively with clients to define the future of work and to navigate the complexities of the COVID-19 pandemic. For more than 25 years, he’s advised major international companies on global portfolio strategy, headquarters strategy, talent & location strategy, mergers & acquisitions and CRE finance strategy among other complex topics.
Experience
With more than 28 years of professional services and client advisory experience, Mr. Billing has worked closely with a number of major international organizations to help them develop real estate strategies that meet business objectives. Clients include P&G Strategic Portfolio Management global lead, Merck – Schering-Plough acquisition and long-range portfolio plan, Unisys – embedded strategic planning, UnitedHealth Group – Minneapolis master plan and Wells Fargo – Minneapolis portfolio strategy. His range of advice includes strategic planning, global real estate portfolio strategy, master planning, asset financial structuring, exit strategy development, occupancy strategy, headquarters strategy advice, merger and acquisition due diligence and integration strategy, and real estate governance for changing organizations. As part of these projects, Mr. Billing has worked closely with senior business executives and real estate leaders to understand business vision, operational and financial requirements in order to develop occupational strategy advice.
In addition, Mr. Billing’s accounting experience strengthens his ability to advise clients on lease accounting, financial structuring and decision-making. During his more than 24 years at JLL, he has had many accounting and finance leadership roles, including Director of Finance, Global Budget & Forecast Leader and Infrastructure Controller. Prior to joining JLL, Mr. Billing was with Arthur Andersen LLP where he provided audit services to financial services industry clients.
Education and Affiliations
Mr. Billing earned an MBA from Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management. He earned his bachelor of Business Administration from Loyola University of Chicago. Mr. Billing is a U.S. Navy and Gulf War veteran, a Certified Public Accountant and has published articles in a variety of trade publications, including Journal of Corporate Real Estate and Corporate Real Estate Leader.
