Summit Mall Transforming to Oakland County Business Center

Approximately one million square feet of redevelopment potential renamed and repurposed

February 05, 2019

DETROIT, Feb 5, 2019 — Existing structures consisting of approximately 1.5 million square feet of the former Summit Place Mall, located in the middle of Oakland County, Mich., will be demolished beginning this April to make way for up to one million square feet of new development at the now renamed Oakland County Business Center (OCBC). Incentives for the property include 10-year tax abatements and opportunity zone status.

OCBC is being developed by ARi-El Enterprises, Inc. with JLL serving as the leasing team led by Managing Directors Larry Emmons and A.J. Weiner.

“The beauty of OCBC is the flexibility,” said Emmons. “There is ample room for build-to-suit sites for businesses in need of research and development, corporate offices, warehouses or flex-type space. Companies moving in have the opportunity to customize sites and buildings in a location where development ready infrastructure is in place.”

Oakland County historically has been a hub for the auto industry and is quickly becoming known as the technology hub of southeast Michigan.

"OCBC offers one of the largest, development ready, parcels in the region,” shares Weiner. "The property is zoned for a wide variety of potential uses (commercial, industrial, high tech, retail lodging and office), providing future occupiers the opportunity to create their own, newly constructed, unique business environment at the OCBC."
