JLL secures sale of 16 East 82nd Street in New York’s Upper East Side neighborhood

Firm sells historic townhouse steps from Metropolitan Museum of Art and Central Park

March 31, 2020

NEW YORK, March 31, 2020 — JLL Capital Markets announced today that it has completed the sale of 16 East 82nd Street, a 9,468-square-foot historic townhouse located in the heart of the Upper East Side. The property was sold for $12.25 million.

The five-story 16 East 82nd Street was designed by famed builder-architect Edward Kilpatrick and constructed in 1888. The Queen Anne-style house retains almost all of its original features, including an elaborate façade with foliate spandrels and panels with heads adorned with helmets, a dentiled cornice, and bead-and-reel moldings. The 9,468-square-foot property features medical office space on the ground floor and six residential units on the upper floors.

Located between Fifth and Madison avenues, 16 East 82nd Street sits on a block that features 21 grand historical mansions. It is just steps from Central Park and the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and the surrounding neighborhood is home to a wide variety of national retailers and boutiques, museums, restaurants and bars. The property’s access to the arts is also unmatched, with the Guggenheim, the Frick and the Cooper-Hewitt Museum within walking distance.

The JLL Capital Markets team overseeing the sale of 16 East 82nd Street include Chairman of New York Investment Sales Bob Knakal, Managing Directors Tom Gammino and Jonathan Hageman, and Directors Patrick Yannotta and Jeremy Simon.

“This is a one-of-a-kind opportunity to acquire one of the most prestigious lots of real estate in the world,” Gammino said. “16 East 82nd Street is prime for a single-family mansion conversion.”
