JLL secures fitness center and entertainment anchors in southeast San Antonio

TruFit Fitness now open; Urban Air Trampoline Park projected to open Q2 2019.

SAN ANTONIO, January 2, 2019 – JLL announced the successful negotiation of two new anchor leases today, TruFit Athletic Club and Urban Air Trampoline Park, at Southwest Junction Shopping Center in San Antonio. The space, located at 165 SW Military Drive, was previously a sporting goods store which vacated last year.

JLL Vice President Guyla Sineni and Senior Associate Jonathan Haag represented shopping center ownership, Southwest Junction, Ltd., a Milam Real Estate Capital managed property, in the lease negotiation.

“TruFit Athletic Club and Urban Air are welcome additions to Southwest Junction,” said Sineni. “Southwest Junction provides great access to a thriving area of consumers in San Antonio. These two new anchors provide a unique mix of both modern and traditional workouts that sure to appeal to family members of all ages.”

JLL national retail research team reported on the trends of redevelopment and re-tenanting of large boxes of space with new tenants across the US. JLL’s Empty to Alive: The Next Use for Department Store Space notes more than 324 department store closing as of the early 2017, which has since increased to 632 reported through October 2018, according to recent numbers from Creditntell. According to the report, the most popular retailer type re-leasing vacated space was “Apparel & Accessories,” followed by “Dining & Food,” then “Entertainment” offerings.
