JLL pursues improved patient experience with expanded healthcare team
Industry veteran Anthony Disser, R.N. and patient care executive, joins JLL Healthcare group
CHICAGO, April 9, 2018 — When patients picture their care team, the building engineer is rarely top of mind. However, behind the doctors and nurses is a robust, and often invisible, facilities staff dedicated to maintaining a safe and comfortable healthcare environment that enhances the patient experience.
To bridge the gap between operations and patient care, JLL Healthcare has retained former Kindred Healthcare executive Anthony (Tony) Disser, M.S., B.S.N., R.N., as Advisor, Healthcare Solutions. A healthcare industry veteran, Disser has held leadership positions in patient care, clinical quality and hospital operations in public, private and teaching healthcare systems.
In his new role, Disser will ensure JLL continues to provide hospitals and health systems with innovative services and solutions that elevate the care environment and improve the patient and family experience.
"Healthcare providers today face enormous pressure to deliver a better experience for patients and their families, reduce the per capita cost of care and improve overall population health," said Roger Humphrey, Executive Managing Director, Industries, JLL. "As the third-highest cost on the balance sheet, real estate and facilities can represent a huge—and often overlooked—opportunity to address today's challenges. Tony Disser's deep experience on the frontlines of healthcare will help us create innovative solutions to help our hospital and health system clients thrive."
Disser's expertise spans the healthcare lifecycle. He has worked in integrated acute and tertiary multi-hospital systems encompassing rehabilitation, ambulatory care, long-term acute care and nursing facilities, as well as hospice and home care. His leadership roles have included a focus on improving clinical quality and performance as well as improving the patient and family experience.
Most recently, Disser was senior vice president for clinical operations and patient care/nursing at Kindred Healthcare Inc. in Louisville, Ky. Prior to that role, he was vice president, patient care/nursing and chief operating officer at Fairfax Hospital in the Inova Health System in Fairfax, Va. He has also served as vice president/chief of patient care and chief operating officer at United Health Services in Binghamton, N.Y., and vice president of patient care/nursing at Rex Healthcare/University of North Carolina in Raleigh, N.C.
"With Tony on our team, we can tear down the silos separating clinical and facilities teams," said George Mills, Director of Healthcare Technical Operations at JLL. "Tony shares our vision: to help our clients rethink the physical environment of patient care so that all employees, from facility managers to surgeons, partner to improve the patient experience."
Disser holds a B.S. degree in nursing from Marycrest College at University of Iowa and an M.S. degree in nursing science from Northern Illinois University. He also holds a post-graduate certificate in conflict resolution from George Mason University and was a post-graduate fellow at the Wharton School of Business at University of Pennsylvania. Disser is a member of the American Organization of Nurse Executives and served as a board chair at the Watson Caring Science Institute.
