JLL Carolinas Hired to Lease Iconic Building

Former headquarters building to be transformed into new, modern workspace

RALEIGH, N.C., Sept. 28, 2018 – State Employees’ Credit Union has hired JLL to lease their iconic building at 5901 Durham-Chapel Hill Boulevard that is being renovated to create new, modern office space in Chapel Hill.

The rhomboid-shaped building was constructed in 1970 and features an innovative, acclaimed design and nearly 5,000 panes of reflective glass. The building has appeared in the New York Times MagazineTimeNewsweek and in design exhibits at The Museum of Modern Art in New York.

Today the four-story, 210,000-square-foot building is undergoing a renovation that will include a state-of-the-art lobby; a new outdoor patio with activated outdoor amenity space; a new fitness center; and new high-efficiency building systems.

Located within walking distance of a new Wegmans Food Market and just south of a planned stop on the Durham-Orange Light Rail Project, the building is suitable for a single-tenant headquarters or for multiple office users and features ample parking. One of the largest blocks of Class-A office space available in the Triangle, it has never previously been available for lease. The renovations at 5901 Durham-Chapel Hill Boulevard are expected to be complete early next summer.
