Historic Patsy Clark Mansion trades hands

JLL and John L Scott teams represented the seller for this 130-year old mixed-use property in the heart of downtown Spokane, Washington

November 17, 2020

SPOKANE, WASH., Nov. 17, 2020 – JLL and John L Scott announced today that it has closed the sale of the historic Patsy Clark Mansion, totaling 11,422 square feet in Spokane, Washington.

Designed by renowned nineteenth century architect Kirtland Cutter for mining magnate Patrick “Patsy” Clark in 1889, this thoughtfully upgraded and restored mixed-use property consists of three and a half stories and suggests Spanish and Moorish influences. The property is located at 2208 W 2nd Ave in Spokane, WA.

Michael Sharapata, Managing Director of JLL in Spokane, and Eric Tucker, of John L Scott represented the seller, the law firm of Eymann Allison Hunter Jones (“EAHJ”).

The Clark mansion is one of Spokane’s finest examples of 19th century American craftmanship, and no expense was spared in the design, construction and furnishings. After immigrating from Ireland in 1870 and amassing a large fortune in the mining industry, Mr. Clark commissioned the mansion in 1889, and it was completed in 1898. Interior influences span multiple regions of the world including Spain, India and China, and much of the original materials and finishes have been carefully preserved. Mr. Clark remained in the mansion until his death in 1915, and after his widow’s death in 1926 the property was sold to Eugene Enloe, whose family lived there until 1946.

Multiple owners operated the building between 1947 – 2002, and during that time it served as a rooming house, inn and restaurant. Since 2002, the building has been owned and by the law firm of EAHJ, which has made many meticulous improvements and restorations including ADA, roofing, woodwork and interior preservation work.

“It was an absolute honor for Eric and I to partner together on this important assignment to protect such an important piece of Spokane’s early history,” said Sharapata. “Steve DeWalt and his team have the experience to modernize the mansion while preserving its historical authenticity, and we look forward to what lies ahead in the mansion’s future!”

“From the beginning of this assignment, it was clear that the seller’s primary focus was over the stewardship transition for one of Spokane’s most iconic historic buildings. There were several offers to purchase the property over the last year and a half, but at the end of the day InterUrban had the right local experience to make the current owners comfortable to pass the baton.” said Tucker.
