Matt Picken
Managing Director & National Lead, Capital Markets, JLL Canada
Matt is managing director and the head of Capital Markets for Canada. He’s responsible for all Capital Markets teams and involved in the origination and execution of investment transactions in every major market and asset class.
In his day to day, Matt also leads the Capital Markets team in Toronto, focusing on advisory in the office, industrial, and land sectors in the Greater Toronto Area.
Since Matt joined JLL in 2015, JLL Canada’s Capital Markets platform has grown tremendously under his strategic leadership, cementing its position as one of the country’s leading advisors. Total transaction volume across the country reached $3.2 billion in 2018, up from $0.5 billion just three years before.
With over 20 years’ experience in commercial real estate advisory and investment banking, Matt has worked for many of North America’s leading investors, including pension funds, REITs, corporations, institutions and family offices. Over his career, Matt has been involved in more than $10.0 billion in transactions, advising on many of the largest development and income property transactions ever completed in Canada.
Before joining JLL, Matt was a partner at Brookfield Financial where he was responsible for investment sales with a focus on office and industrial assets, as well as development land. Prior to that, he was a vice president with RBC’s Capital Markets group in Toronto.
Matt holds an Honours Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of Western Ontario. Currently, he sits on the Corporate Board of Directors for NAIOP, and was the president of the Toronto Chapter in 2014. He’s also involved in several Canadian charities, including the Canadian Diabetes Association, Big Brothers of Toronto, The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF), Prostate Cancer Canada, and most recently Covenant House and The Michael Garron Hospital Foundation.
In his spare time, Matt enjoys spending time with his family, living an active lifestyle as a sports enthusiast and coaching his children’s baseball team.
