  • The Bureau of Labor Statistics recently released a “The Economics Daily” report covering how Colorado has the second-highest wages (taking into account local cost of living) for the sports and outdoor recreation industry. The only state higher was New Hampshire. But what happens when you account for industry size and growth?
  • Colorado had by far the most jobs in the industry at 3,738,000, roughly double that of third-place state Utah and quadruple that of New Hampshire. Colorado also saw the largest year-over-year (YOY) growth in percentage of the workforce for August 2018, adding roughly 17,500 jobs. So if you’re looking to become a “liftie” at the ski slopes, Colorado’s sheer numbers work in your favor while still providing an above-average paycheck.
  • 12.7 percent of Colorado’s nonfarm jobs are in the leisure and hospitality industry. In the Denver metro alone, over 11,215 spaces are occupied in over 7,000 buildings by leisure and hospitality companies, according to NAICS codes. At 5.3% YOY growth, the leisure and hospitality industry has expanded since this time last year, contributing significantly to Denver’s robust economy and real estate transactions.
