Technology and life sciences/healthcare continue to dominate San Diego venture capital funding
San Diego has seen an immense amount of venture capital funding pour into the market, averaging $2.6 billion annually over the last two years.

- In 2018 and 2019, both life sciences/healthcare and technology industries have accounted for 84 percent and 95 percent of the total investment activity. Technology funding alone, has increased 81 percent to $960 million in 2019.
- Looking forward, capital investors appear to remain confident in the San Diego innovation ecosystem. The first quarter of 2020 VC funding is off to a hot start, totaling $660 million, and is on pace to surpass 2018’s record year.
