- Since 2015 the San Diego market has a total of nearly $5.5 billion of investment funds pouring into the life sciences industries, averaging about $33 million per funding round according to Crunchbase. The correlation between venture capital to IPO equity is quite apparent that it is fueling leasing activity within the San Diego life sciences cluster. Besides the mature submarkets of Torrey Pines, Sorrento Mesa/Valley, and UTC, the other emerging submarket for the life sciences is Del Mar Heights. Del Mar Heights totaled about $1 billion in investment funding since 2015 and displayed over 500,000 square feet of leasing activity.
