Happy International Women’s Day! Orange County boasts lowest female unemployment rate in U.S.
Across the U.S., total female nonfarm employment has increased by 17 percent since the turn of the century.

- Across the U.S., total female nonfarm employment has increased by 17 percent since the turn of the century, a rate that is 12.2 percent higher than the overall gain in the prime working age population (25 to 54 years).
- During the past 18 years, the greatest overall growth in female employment has been in the education and healthcare sector. More recently, the construction sector has experienced the largest percentage increase in both 5-year and 1-year terms.
- In Orange County over the last 5 years, female unemployment has decreased from 8.7 percent to 5.3 percent. Of the top 5 most populated counties in the U.S., Orange County holds the lowest female unemployment rate. In the county, the professions with the largest female employment levels are office and administrative support, sales, management and education occupations.
- A trend that exists across U.S. universities is that females often form more than half of the total student population. It has been proven that increased female leadership enhances a company’s performance and as more and more of these educated women enter the job market, all companies should strive to incorporate greater gender diversity, its good for business!
