- As Orange County’s tech market continues to experience strong growth, the gaming industry is playing a significant role in the expansion with over 30 gaming companies located in Orange County. While there is a heavy concentration of firms in Irvine, they are making their presence known throughout the county.
- In addition to game studios, an entire gaming ecosystem is forming in the market. The North America Scholastic Esports Federation is based in Orange County and held its inaugural season in 2018. This organization is open to high schools and community-based organizations serving students grades 9-12. UC Irvine formed UCI Esports in 2015 and was the first public university to create an official esports program, which includes game-related education, research studies, and competition. There are also two esports arenas in Orange County, the UCI Esports Arena in Irvine and the Esports Arena in Santa Ana.
- Industry leader Blizzard having a strong presence in Orange County provides the opportunity to create spin-off companies. Orange County has both well-established and startup gaming firms with industry growth set to continue as the local ecosystem matures beginning with kids learning at young ages, advancing through higher education, and then contributing as work professionals.
