DFW has changed dramatically as it expanded to accommodate its 7.7 million people

At 7.7 million people, DFW is currently the 4th largest metro area in the US.

  • Today’s expansive metroplex wasn’t always that way.  In the first map, pre 1960, population stood at 1.7 million and was focused in the cores of Dallas and Fort Worth.
  • Despite economic booms and busts over the last 6 decades, DFW has continued to expand.  The 1979 map shows Fort Worth & Dallas beginning to merge – and the periods since show dramatic housing growth across the region.
