- Women now make up 18.4% of the building construction workforce, reaching the highest point on record since data became available in 1990. While the percentage of women has been increasing slowly for decades, the pace of growth has increased significantly over the last 18 months.
- As the construction industry copes with a persistent labor shortage, 48% of firms are actively engaging in external career building programs, according to a recent AGC survey. These programs incorporate outreach to groups, including women, which are underrepresented in the industry. Although the increase in women is not yet large enough to alleviate the labor shortage entirely, it will begin to make a significant dent if the pace of growth of the last 18 months continues.
