- Boston has seen a surge in venture capital investment since 2014. It has nearly tripled over that time from about $4 billion to $11.5 billion in 2018; signaling Boston’s rapidly growing startup ecosystem into one of the largest in the country.
- This has been led by the explosion of life science investment in the area, which accounted for about half of 2018 funding.
- The largest rounds went to Cambridge Mobile Telematics and Moderna Therapeutics; each raised $500 million and are headquartered in Kendall Square. The Softbank Vision Fund was the sole investor in Cambridge Mobile Telematics, while a group of ten investors joined in for Moderna’s massive Series G funding.
