Seattle net millennial migration highest in country

• Washington State saw the largest net migration of millennials in 2017, adding 39,590 more millennials than were lost. This accounts for 0.55% of the total population for the state.

• Of all cities in the state, Seattle saw the largest share of net millennial migration with 29,628 millennials migrating to the city and only 22,326 moving  out of the city. This works out to 7,302 more millennial residents gained than lost in just one year.

• With 12% and 7.6% growth in tech and STEM jobs respectively for the Seattle metro area over the last two years, employment opportunities continue to be a huge draw for millennials.

• Of the top 25 cities for millennial migration, only 3 are on the West Coast outside of Seattle. The lion’s share of millennial growth outside of Seattle occurred in the Southeast, Midwest, Virginia and Colorado.
