Indiana metros boast strong life science industries

• Indiana was cited as a top-rated state in a recent bi-annual report on the U.S. life science industry from Biotechnology Industry Organization and TEConomy Partners. The state has large employment and industry concentration in the Agricultural Feedstock and Chemicals, Drugs and Pharmaceuticals, and Medical Devices and Equipment sectors. Indiana also placed ninth in the country for number of bioscience-related patents.

• Further, seven metro areas were highlighted as having significant life sciences industry concentrations (higher than national average employment in these sectors). In fact, each of these cities ranked in the Top-20 in their respective MSA size class. Bloomington, Indianapolis, and Lafayette were mentioned in the report for having some of the strongest industry performance in the country.

• Indianapolis ranked fifth in the nation for the amount of employment in Drugs and Pharmaceutical and fourth in the U.S.  for employment in Agricultural Feedstock and Chemicals.
