The Minneapolis-St. Paul metro has the highest startup growth rate in the nation

  • According to the 2017 Kauffman Index, Minneapolis is one of the most entrepreneurial cities in the United States and its startups have the highest average growth rate at 121%. San Jose, aka Silicon Valley, is ranked second with a startup growth rate of 116%. The national average was 61% in 2017. The Kauffman Index measures how much employment has grown at startup companies after five years.

  • Startup growth is positively impacting office absorption with young tech firms responsible for significant leasing activity. Bright Health, Bellacor, and Vidku are great examples of local tech startups that have recently relocated to the Minneapolis CBD from smaller and less permanent space. Collectively the three firms have occupied 50,000 square feet in the last three years, and there are many, many more examples of growing startups that are seeking to expand in the Twin Cities office market.
