Education & Health Services labor force have seen the largest growth in the last decade

• San Diego County’s unemployment rate for February 2018 was at 3.5 percent, 1.6 percentage points lower than 10 years ago at 5.1 percent. Over the last 10 years business across the county for education & health services added 57,400 workers, leisure & hospitality hired 31,100, and manufacturing increased by 8,500 jobs.

• From 2008 to 2018 the education & health services sector growth was primarily driven from the medical and ambulatory segments rising by 44.4 percent, from 176,400 to 254,800 jobs. San Diego is home to a few of the nations top health care providers that include Scripps Health, Sharp HealthCare, and UC San Diego.

• We expect to see further increase in the leisure & hospitality workforce since the hotel industry is booming with currently 16 hotels under construction with a total of 2,823 hotel rooms, only second to Los Angeles in the state of California. This is well above the recent years with adding 1,017 rooms in 2016 and 826 rooms in 2017.
