Five-year decline in awards to 10 largest government contractors reverses in 2016

•Of the total government technology contracts awarded since 2009, the top 10 recipients steadily declined from $71.3 billion in 2010 to $47.9 billion in 2015, a 32.8% decline; 2016 marked a reversal though with a 1% increase from 2015.

•In the most recent earnings calls, the largest contractors were mostly positive on the 2017 outlook, with four out of the top five projecting an average 2017 revenue increase of 4.4% versus an average annual decline of 0.6% over the last five years.

•Real estate investors in Northern Virginia also appear optimistic on future defense initiatives and the budget the Trump administration will set forth as 2016 marked the second consecutive year of office sales growth there and a flurry of trades, from core to opportunistic, such as Waterview, 3120 Fairview Park and One Fair Oaks, ushered in 2017.
