Venture Capital dollars remain concentrated in Westside markets

• The Los Angeles area saw almost eight billion dollars of venture capital investment in 2017 and during the first three months of 2018. While two billion dollars of the total amount can be attributed to Snap’s final funding prior to their IPO in 2017, the remaining six billion dollars is made up of 305 start-ups, in a variety of industries and varying stages of the funding cycle.

• By mapping these investments, it is clear that the Silicon Beach communities of Santa Monica and Venice are home to the bulk of the VC transactions. However, markets like Beverly Hills and West Hollywood as well as pockets of West Los Angeles are also becoming standouts of capital infusions.

• Continued venture capital investment speaks to the breadth and depth of the innovation and ingenuity of the talented Los Angeles workforce. As some of the markets most notable start-ups IPO, others emerge, and investors are eagerly backing new projects.
