Total employment in the San Francisco-Redwood City-South San Francisco MSA reaches a new peak

  • ​Total employment in the San Francisco-Redwood City-South San Francisco metropolitan statistical area reached a new peak in November with a total of 1,135,000 individuals employed in the region. Technology has historically led the region’s job growth.

  • Total unemployment tightened to just 2.2 percent in comparison to 4.6 percent and 4.1 percent for California and The United States respectively, yet in November professional and business services led all industries in month-over-month growth by adding 4,200 jobs.

  • The thriving local economy has kept demand for office space strong, with more than 2 million square feet of leases greater than 20,000 square feet signed during 2017.​
