San Francisco venture capital funding picks up in the fourth quarter

  • San Francisco venture capital funding picked up throughout 2017 after slowing at the end of 2016, with $17.1 billion being raised across 980 deals.
  • Despite rising activity, total funding for 2017 fell short of 2016 funding, which saw $18.7 billion across 1,113 deals.
  • Venture-capital backed companies are leasing space in San Francisco and vying for talent in an area where unemployment is less than 2.5 percent. Funding activity should rise as venture-capital backed companies continue to gravitate towards San Francisco.
