Total employment in the Seattle-Bellevue MSA reached its highest peak

  • Driven by a rapidly expanding technology sector, Seattle’s economy has hit a new all-time employment peak with 1,595,964 people currently employed. Seattle boasts one of the lowest unemployment rates of any major metro area, with the local unemployment rate 30 basis points below the national average.
  • Current figures show that unemployment in November 2017 stood at 4.5 percent statewide and 3.8 percent in the Seattle-Bellevue-Everett area. The region has experienced strong job growth across all business segments. In particular the Trade, Transportation and Utilities sector led this month’s growth with 15,600  jobs added in the last 12 months, representing an annualized growth of 5.0 percent.
  • With both the local and national economy on the rebound, the outlook for the Puget Sound market is positive. Moving into 2018, we expect the office and industrial market to continue to perform well, both in terms of demand from tenants and interest from the investors.
