Weekday Link Light Rail boarding up 13.5% year-over-year

  • As the Seattle-Bellevue market continues to grow and affordability stretches the market vertically, many commuters are ditching their cars and embracing the convenience of light rail.  As a result, average daily weekday boardings increased by 9,111 year-over-year, a 13.5% increase from Q3 2016 to Q3 2017.
  • Opening just before the close of Q3 2016, Angle Lake saw the most dramatic increase in boardings with an average of 3,730 new weekday boardings. As the new Southern terminus, boardings from SeaTac and Tukwila have migrated to Angle Lake, leading to a marked decrease in ridership at both while demonstrating the demand from Southern markets such as Federal Way and Tacoma without local light rail access.
  • Of the established stations, those North of the Stadium station increased the most dramatically, due in large part to employment gains throughout the Downtown Core and the U Link expansion to Capitol Hill and the University of Washington.
