All the new faces in Portland – likely from another state

  • Since 2010 Portland’s population has increased by almost 200,000 people and in 2016 the metro area grew by almost 1.7 percent from the previous year to more than 2.4 million people.
  • The increase is largely attributable to in-migration with over 73 percent of the increase in 2016 coming from people moving to the metro.
  • And of all those new people moving to Portland, in 2016, 82 percent of them were from another state, up from 62 percent in 2010.
  • The U.S. Census Bureau estimates that the Portland metro will grow by another 141,326 people by 2021.
