Tech it Out: Raleigh is the 4th Best City for Tech Workers

  • Personal finance technology company, SmartAsset, dove into the factors that comprise the best cities to work in tech for their fourth annual study, Cities were ranked on the percent of workers in technology fields, the average tech salary, the average tech salary versus the average salary for all occupations, the cost of living, and the unemployment rate.
  • Raleigh ranked as the 4th best city in the U.S. for tech workers. What catapulted the North Carolina city into the Top 5? It’s percentage of tech employment and innovative ecosystem. 5.6 percent of Raleigh’s workforce is in technology, the 11th highest rate in the country according to SmartAsset, and earn an average of $89,000 per year. Throughout the region, tech workers have their choice of employers, ranging from Red Hat to SAS and everything in between.
  • The area has no talent shortage thanks to the proximity of top universities, including: Duke University, University of North Carolina Chapel Hill and North Carolina State University. Each year, more than 100,000 students are enrolled in twelve colleges and universities across the region and nearly 30,000 degrees are conferred.  ​
