Raleigh-Durham International Airport

  • Raleigh-Durham International Airport (RDU) reported that more than 11.0 million passengers travelled through the airport in 2016, an 11.1 percent increase from 2015. And there’s no slowdown in sight. Now halfway through the 2017 calendar year, the airport is reporting year-over-year growth for the 40th month in a row. Data for June 2017 shows 547,905 enplaned passengers and 524,548 deplaned passengers.
  • Major airline carriers are taking note, especially with RDU on track to exceed 2016’s passenger total. RDU now has 50 nonstop flights, seven of which are set to begin in the next year. Frontier announced its plans to debut two new nonstop flights to Kansas City and Providence, and Virgin America is delivering direct service to San Francisco in October. Delta debuted nonstop service to Seattle in June, and also commenced nonstop service to Austin.
  • The new flights and increased traffic signal strong relations between some of America’s top tech hubs.
