Raleigh Metro employment varies by sector

The Raleigh Metro has a reputation for being “smart.” Anchored by three top tier universities – NC State University, UNC Chapel Hill, and Duke University – the area has a plethora of highly educated talent. With this in mind, it’s no surprise that professional and business services occupations saw the greatest growth over the last 12 months.

•Professional and business services, one of the key drivers of office demand, posted the highest gains compared to other industries.  The sector added 110,500 jobs in the last year

•Expect to see professional and business services continue to rise. Infosys, India’s second-largest IT company, is adding 2,000 jobs to the county, and A Wireless is relocating its headquarters to Raleigh

•Construction jobs took the greatest hit. While there continues to be no lack of projects in the pipeline, more than 830,000 square feet of office wrapped up construction. Don’t expect construction to be down for long; MetLife and Credit Suisse are expected to kick off their buildings soon.
