Tight labor market conditions should have employers focused on workplace strategy to attract talent

  • ​​The number of unemployed people to job openings is now at its lowest levels since before the Great Recession. Currently, there are 1.7 job seekers for every job opening in the State of Florida, down from its high point of 6.8 job seekers per job opening. This ratio is even lower in Tampa (1.3), Orlando (1.2), and Jacksonville (1.4).
  • While the majority of advertised jobs are in no-office using industries, and the ratios may vary by sector, office tenants should take note, especially as the shallowing talent pool is a contributing factor to slower office-sector using employment growth.
  • With a diminishing talent pool –in a state where talent is already difficult to find –the strategies for attracting and retain quality employees is more important than ever. With stiffer competition to fill positions, companies need to consider not only the geographic location of their offices, but also the design and feel of their offices in order to differentiate from their competitors.
