Update: WSDOT applied for $114.4 million in FASTLANE Grants for Gateway Program

Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) recently applied for a FASTLANE grant for the Puget Sound Gateway Program that includes the SR 509 and SR 167 projects with complementary improvements to I-5. Total project cost is estimated to be $1.9 billion. The construction for SR 167 is anticipated to start by 2019, with SR 509 starting by 2022.

Puget Sound Gateway Program expects to improve the freight highway network by connecting the state’s largest ports
to key distribution centers in King and Pierce counties, and improving mobility and relieving traffic loads on local roads and highways.

The program is also intended to be supplemented with $180 million leveraged from future toll revenues generated once the construction stage is completed.
