Indiana, the valedictorian among best states for manufacturing in 2018

• For the second year in a row Indiana ranks #1 in Conexus Indiana’s annual Manufacturing and Logistics Report Card for the United States. The report, compiled along with the Ball State Center for Business & Economic Research, ranks states on nine categories critical to the manufacturing and logistics industries. Supply Chain Digest then analyzed the data to come up with a composite score to give each state an overall summary score.

• Accolades for Indiana are plentiful. Indiana was the only state with a composite score greater than 3.0. The state also achieved an A rating in four of the nine categories. No other state had more than three. Indiana was one of only two states (Kentucky) to achieve an A grade in both the manufacturing and logistics industry health categories.

• Indiana’s manufacturing success can be felt locally. At mid-year, manufacturing in Central Indiana has posted 400,000 square feet of occupancy growth, has the lowest vacancy rate at 1.1 percent and the second highest asking rent ($3.94 per square foot).
