Metro St. Louis continues to show its strength in the labor market with an unemployment rate that is seven-tenths below the national average (as of Dec. 2016 data) at 4.0 percent. Job growth also remains higher than U.S. norms over the last 12 months, sitting at 2.5 percent locally. Leisure and hospitality, mining, logging and construction as well as educational and health services topped all supersectors for December 2016 hirings with each surpassing four percent growth.
