Report | Consumer sentiment reveals political divide
The University of Michigan's Consumer Sentiment Index fell in early February from January levels. Although the index remains elevated, it reveals a significant political divide. For Republicans, the outlook remains near historically high levels. But for Democrats, it is near historically low levels. Consumers are divided along party lines about the new administration and its policies, reflecting how they feel about the economy. Almost six in ten consumers surveyed made a positive or negative mention of government policies, which is unprecedented.
