Report | Will the inflation rate keep increasing?

Summary

Inflation is on an upswing according to new data out last week. With the impact of weak oil prices fading, the headline Consumer Price Index (CPI) rose to 2.1 percent on a year-over-year basis in December. This marks the first time since the middle of 2014 (when oil prices began to implode) that headline inflation surpassed the 2-percent threshold.

Data released in the New York Fed's Empire State Manufacturing Survey seems to indicate that the upswing in inflation is likely to stick around.
