Report | Upside case for the economy looks stronger

Summary

Last week's economic data was relatively light due to the Thanksgiving holiday, but releases showed no loss of momentum in the economy.

On the corporate front, durable goods orders for October leaped well above expectations. Although this level of growth is not sustainable, it does indicate that corporate spending could be on an upswing and contribute positively to economic growth in the fourth quarter. In recent years, capital spending has been relatively weak so this could portend a shift in behavior, especially if the incoming administration implements favorable policies.
