Metro St. Louis's unemployment rate followed the overall U.S. unemployment rate trend in January 2016, falling by 0.3 percent to rest at 4.3 percent—a full percentage point below the U.S. unemployment average of 5.3 percent.
The local mining, logging and construction industry saw the biggest job growth in this latest report, with job gains from the education and health sector not far behind.
Major retail giant Macy's has announced plans to cut 750 jobs at its Bridgeton call center as part of a cost-cutting initiative.
