Report | Retail Investment Outlook - Q4 2015

Summary

Retail investors focus on safe bets: Top gateway markets, Class A malls and credit tenants. Despite lower volumes in Q4, 2015 retail investment sales rose slightly year-over-year. Foreign appetite for retail remains selective, with larger players targeting larger malls and centers and private investors focused on urban, high street deals under $50 million. As Class A mall performance improves, retail investors are favoring portfolio and partial-interest deal structures. Despite a $9.2 billion decrease in REIT activity year-over-year, single retail asset acquisitions are growing at a healthy pace.
