Report | United States Employment Update - February 2013
The U.S. employment situation changed little from 2012, although upward revision demonstrated signs of promise for the year ahead. In January, the one-month net change in total non-farm employment totaled 157,000 jobs, slightly down from December. At the same time, unemployment shifted upward by 10 basis points to 7.9 percent. On the sub-sector side, office-using jobs have now recovered all the jobs lost during the downturn and during the month, education and health services and leisure and hospitality remained dominant in monthly growth, while public sector employment continued to contract, this past month by 6,000 jobs, bringing its two-year job losses to 339,000.
