Report | United States Employment Update - January 2013
Closing a year of slow but steady growth, December saw national payrolls expand by 155,000, slightly above the monthly average of 152,900 for 2012 as a whole. Consistent with trends throughout the year, total non-farm and office-using employment saw 1.4 and 1.9 percent year-on-year growth, respectively, while tech, energy and creative industries saw more robust growth. Of non-office-using sectors, education and health continues its rapid monthly and annual growth. With some of the numerous impediments to increased hiring abated somewhat at the federal level and the beginnings of the recovery in numerous mid-size geographies, we expect 2013 to pick up some momentum after the pause throughout much of 2012.
