The Port of Miami is the leading cargo port in the state of Florida handling close to 850,000 TEUs annually. Every year the Port of Miami contributes close to $18 billion to the local economy and helps support more than 176,000 jobs. With the Panama Canal expansion scheduled to be completed by 2014, to remain competitive and to attract a larger market share of international trade, the Port of Miami is investing close to $2 billion in infrastructure improvements of the port, to be invested over the next ten years.
