​​​​​​​Current responsibilities
Carolyn Bates serves as the Research Manager​ for the JLL Minneapolis-St. Paul market, supporting both the office and industrial teams. Carolyn tracks economic, demographic, and real estate data and utilizes the information to produce insightful reports on a recurring basis.

She is proficient in aggregating intelligence from a variety of third party resources and also collects, tabulates, and distributes primary research including lease comparables, tenants in the market, and large-block availabilities. In this role, Carolyn works closely with the Midwest Research team, JLL Minneapolis brokers, and the local marketing team.

Carolyn's interests include finding innovative ways to share data, whether it is developing interactive maps using GIS tools or designing impactful charts and visualizations. She brings numerous years of experience in market research as well as industry and workforce analysis.

As a technology geek, Carolyn loves learning about new developments in the high-tech sector and corresponding business deals. 

Prior to joining JLL, Carolyn was Research Project Manager for GREATER MSP, the Minneapolis Saint Paul Regional Economic Development Partnership.

In addition to supporting regional business development and marketing strategies, she provided research and analysis for metro-wide initiatives like talent attraction and increasing global trade and investment.


  • Master of Library and Information Science from University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee
  • Bachelor of Arts, English from University of Wisconsin-Madison

Carolyn is the 2016 President for the Minnesota Chapter of the Special Libraries Association (SLA), a global organization for innovative information professionals.

She has served in committee positions for the Council of Community and Economic Research (C2ER) and as a data advisor for local arts organizations.
