Current responsibilities
Michael Hirschfeld co-leads JLL’s National Retail Tenant Services Group, a specialty service line focused on expanding the firm’s retail tenant representation capabilities.

In his role, he targets premium and high-end retailers who are occupying space in enclosed malls and outlet centers as well as dense, urban retail markets across the United States. 

He advises on the best strategy and adding value to all of our client’s real estate decisions from expansion and contraction to design and location.

Michael has been in the retail real estate services business for more than 35 years specializing in urban retail across the major markets in the United States.

Prior to joining JLL, he was the owner of Surge Retail International, which he co-founded with Steve Ferris. His clients have included national retailers such as All Saints, Barney’s, Ben Sherman, Bose Corporation, Brioni, Brookstone, Diesel, Lego, Lindt Chocolate, Puma, and Quiksilver.

He was previously employed with Trammell Crow where he ran the Urban & Specialty Retail Real Estate division. He was also formerly Senior Vice President overseeing the National Retail Division of Equis, the Chicago-based tenant representation firm.

Prior to that role, he was the founding partner of Garrick-Aug Associates which grew to be New York’s leading retail brokerage firm at the time.

Michael is a graduate of New York University and an instructor at the school’s Real Estate Institute.

He has spoken on retail real estate issues before the Real Estate Board of New York and the Building Owners and Managers Association (BOMA) as well as other national conferences and symposiums.

He has appeared frequently in the media including CNN and other national and local television programs.
