Current Responsibilities

John Strauss is a Senior Managing Director with JLL's Hotels & Hospitality Group and co-head of Americas Hotel Capital Markets. Mr. Strauss is based in Los Angeles and currently heads up the investment sales division for the Western United States. Mr. Strauss has a 20-year tenure with the firm and has completed over $15 billion of hotel transactions.

Mr. Strauss has been involved in the recent sales and marketing efforts for the St. Regis San Francisco, Sheraton San Francisco Fisherman's Wharf, Marriott San Mateo, DoubleTree Los Angeles Downtown, Hotel Monaco Portland, Hyatt Regency Phoenix, Mandarin Oriental, Las Vegas, the Fairmont Hotel San Jose and Turtle Bay Resort in Oahu, Hawaii. 


For over 20 years, Mr. Strauss has held leadership positions in the hospitality industry including operations, hotel consulting and hotel brokerage activities throughout the United States.  His diverse hotel industry background includes arranging equity and debt transactions and strategic planning for owners, investors and lenders. Mr. Strauss' clients are comprised of major hotel owners including hotel operating companies, private equity firms and REITs including among others Hyatt Hotels Corporation, Starwood Hotels & Resorts, The Blackstone Group, Mass Mutual Life Insurance Company and the Prudential Life Insurance Company.

Prior Positions

Mr. Strauss' prior work experience includes hospitality consulting and valuation work, including operational reviews, as a consultant for PKF consulting in Los Angeles. Prior to that, Mr. Strauss gained three years of hotel operational experience with Four Seasons Hotels & Resorts. Fluent in German, Mr. Strauss has also worked abroad for Kempinski Hotels in Munich, Germany.

Education and Affiliations

Mr. Strauss received a Bachelor of Science degree in Hotel Administration from Cornell University. He is a licensed real estate broker in California and a licensed salesperson in Nevada. Mr. Strauss is a member of the Cornell Hotel Society and sits on the board of advisors for the Collins College at Cal Poly Pomona.
