Current Responsibilities
Larry Root is a Senior Project Manager with the Connecticut office of Jones Lang LaSalle.  He joined the firm in early November, 2011 and is presently responsible for a 300,000 s.f. build-out of a new corporate headquarters for Starwood Hotels and Resorts Worldwide, Inc.  Relocating from White Plains, New York, Starwood’s new headquarters features eleven floors of office and business amenity space, a building entry expansion and façade renovation and a high-end “Owner/Developer Experience” reception/immersion/conference center, as well as hotel “model rooms,” showcasing each of Starwood’s eight prominent hotel brands.
 
Previous Experience
Mr. Root brings to Jones Lang LaSalle over twenty-eight years of experience, having practiced extensively in project and facilities management, architectural design/administration and in general contracting.  Having thus been the client, the architect and the builder, Mr. Root’s large breadth of experience within the industry enables him to provide his clients with a unique insight into the opportunities and challenges of the primary team members of a project.  He spent nearly ten years with the facilities team at Pepsi-Cola’s corporate headquarters in Somers, New York, supervising the master planning and construction of a broad range of projects from executive offices suites to ancillary buildings to 650,000 sq. ft. reorganizations and renovations.  In architectural practice, he has worked with a number of locally and internationally based design firms and has supported a multitude of clients, both small and large, including Heineken USA, the United States Tennis Association, Abercrombie & Kent, J.H. Whitney & Co. and many others.  Within the construction industry, Mr. Root has specialized in managing interiors projects within the Manhattan marketplace, including extremely high-end corporate headquarters such as KPS Capital Partners, fashion industry design/retail spaces such as Kahn Lucas Lancaster, financial teams such as Intercontinental Exchange on the mezzanine of Manhattan’s World Financial Center and high-visibility restaurant work such as Brasserie Cognac du Monsieur Balloon within the New York theatre district.
 
Overall, Mr. Root’s work in project management, facilities, design and construction management provide him with an unusual ability to understand the needs of the client, their professional team and their builders.  He consistently leverages the team to realize the project vision and provide the client with a project which is on time, on budget and executed in a manner which is thoroughly best-practice and is fully supportive of the client’s business needs.
 
Education and Affiliations
Mr. Root holds several degrees from The Pennsylvania State University, University Park, Pennsylvania.  He has a Baccalaureate of Science in Architecture and a Baccalaureate of Architecture.  Mr. Root is a member of the American Institute of Architects Connecticut chapter.
