Current ResponsibilitiesMr. Smith is the Retail Brokerage Lead at Jones Lang LaSalle overseeing our retail brokerage efforts in the DFW and Southwest market. Mr. Smith has extensive market knowledge and has developed strong relationships with retailers, owners and the brokerage community. His on-the-ground knowledge of existing asset availabilities and familiarity with new developments and other trends in the market provide an added value to clients, ensuring no opportunity is overlooked.
ExperienceMr. Smith has been in the real estate services business for 32 years and most recently led the largest national retail-dedicated brokerage company in the country. He joined The Staubach Company in 2001 and held several leadership positions including CEO and President of Staubach Retail and SRS Real Estate Partners. He was responsible for leading a company that grew business by more than 300% over a 6-year period. He also led the successful formation of SRS Real Estate Partners after The Staubach Company was sold to Jones Lang LaSalle. During his time at The Staubach Company, Clay was responsible for opening numerous retail offices across the U.S. and growing the company to over 300 employees and associates. Prior to joining The Staubach Company, Mr. Smith had his own firm, which he founded with the Trammell Crow Company as his partner, for over 15 years. Mr. Smith has represented numerous retailers in their new site acquisitions and in addition, he has put together a variety of retail development deals for landlords including leading the team that assisted Archon Group in converting an enclosed mall into a 500,000 s.f. power center that includes Wal-Mart, Barnes & Noble, Michaels, Staples, Best Buy and roughly 30 other retailers. Mr. Smith has also represented buyers and sellers of numerous income-producing properties including sale leasebacks for several tenants and the sale of some of Dallas’ highest profile shopping centers including Inwood Village and Casa Linda.
Education and AffiliationsMr. Smith has served on the board of NTCAR and is a member of ICSC where he has been a feature speaker on several real estate panels. He has served on several community and church boards including Park Cities YMCA, KLife Ministries and has served as a deacon at Park Cities Presbyterian Church.
