Current Responsibilities

Paul Berkman is an executive vice president at JLL's Retail Brokerage Services in New York City. He represents owners and investors in developing and executing leasing strategies to maximize retail properties' full potential. Mr. Berkman has strong knowledge of marketing, development and management to better assist clients in achieving their overall asset and corporate goals. His experience in agency leasing and tenant representation has enabled him to develop and maintain strong retailer relationships at the national, regional and local level. He started the Jones Lang LaSalle Retail Division in 2012.


Prior to joining JLL, Mr. Berkman worked as senior managing director at Newmark Grubb Knight Frank. He has played a key role in the arrival of some of the world's finest brands—including Billabong, Element, Dave & Buster's, Levi's, Desigual, National Basketball Association (NBA) and Maison Kayser among others—into the Manhattan market. Mr. Berkman is an exclusive representative  for gourmet food market, Maison Kayser in the US, and to date has opened sixteen locations in Manhattan with national roll-out slated for 2018.

With 16 years of real estate experience and 10 years as a retailer, Mr. Berkman combines his intellectual capital, construction, architecture and market knowledge to add value to each of his client's projects. He relies on a creative approach that seeks to reposition underutilized spaces and transform them into viable retail. His innovative approach has resulted in success for his clients and accolades from his peers. Prior to joining Newmark Grubb Knight Frank, he was the owner and operator of a 20-location apparel chain.

In recognition of his accomplishments, Mr. Berkman in 2015 and 2016 was named a "JLL Top Gun" for outstanding performance and production.

Education and Affiliations

Mr. Berkman is a member of the Real Estate Board of New York (REBNY) and International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC). He won REBNY's Retail "Most Creative Deal of the Year" award in 2003 for the opening of the Guitar Center on 14th Street in Union Square.
