U.S. EPA Approves Jones Lang LaSalle as an Automated Benchmarking System Participant for ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager

Jones Lang LaSalle’s property owner clients gain real-time access to building performance benchmarking data, enabling greater efficiency and cost savings

CHICAGO, November 3, 2010 — The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has recognized Jones Lang LaSalle’s Portfolio Energy & Environmental Reporting System (PEERS) as an effective system for integrating with ENERGY STAR data via the EPA’s Automated Benchmarking System (ABS).

PEERS, an award-winning system for optimizing energy efficiency strategies at properties and across large portfolios, has been developed and refined over several years. In 2009, Jones Lang LaSalle achieved 100 percent participation in ENERGY STAR across its U.S. property management portfolio. ABS enables the real-time integration of data between PEERS and ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager data.

The use of ABS benefits Jones Lang LaSalle’s U.S. property and facility management clients by streamlining energy performance and benchmarking data, which enables energy managers to reduce energy usage, cost and related greenhouse gas emissions.  The ENERGY STAR program also benefits from the increase in real-time property data to validate benchmarking data.

“Integrating PEERs with ENERGY STAR enhances the effectiveness of both systems and streamlines energy management processes,” said Bruce Sirota, Senior Vice President of Energy Services at Jones Lang LaSalle. “As ENERGY STAR has become universally recognized as the standard for benchmarking energy performance in buildings, ABS makes it possible for us to share building data and receive ratings that help us in identifying and implementing best practices.”

“Jones Lang LaSalle has been an ENERGY STAR Partner for more than a decade and was named Partner of the Year in 2007 and 2010, so we definitely understand the effectiveness of the program in reducing energy consumption and cost,” said Gary Graham, Senior Vice President of Energy Services at Jones Lang LaSalle. “As more and more cities and states start requiring energy performance measurement and disclosure, the importance of ENERGY STAR is continually increasing.”

About ENERGY STAR

ENERGY STAR is a joint program of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Department of Energy to help American families and organizations save money and protect the environment through energy efficient products and practices. With the help of ENERGY STAR, Americans saved enough energy in 2009 to avoid greenhouse gas emissions equivalent to those from 30 million cars — all while saving nearly $17 billion on their utility bills.

About Automated Benchmarking System

ABS is a framework for exchanging data between ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager and third-party Energy Service Provider (ESP) systems. EPA created ABS to exchange data with variety of ESPs, including energy software and bill payment companies, regional efficiency programs, utilities, operations management software providers, and large multi-site organizations. EPA has found that ESPs that understand the ENERGY STAR program and ABS before integration have a more positive experience.
